Boise Idaho Engagement – Shea & McKay

It all started in choir. A beautiful girl was called in to play the piano for the high school choir that her brother was in. She was talented. She was enchanting. And there was a boy in that choir who had his eye on her. Their love story is a beautiful one and my sister and I got to play a small part in it.

Mr. McKay worked for my sister at Graples Home Decor while he was awaiting his mission call. It took a little longer than he had planned, so he was around long enough to have him become one of the family. At about the time that his call was to come in, he left work excited that it would come in the mail over the weekend. I laughed and told him that he didn’t even have to open the letter – he would be going to Argentina.

Imagine everyone’s surprise when he was called to the Argentina Bahia Blanca Mission – our family’s home town.

When McKay had been out for a few months, my sister, step-mom and I took a trip down to visit family. It have been over 25 years since we had been there and we were very excited. Ms. Shea found out that we were going down and asked if we could hand deliver a letter to McKay. We got permission to see him, drove a few hours to where he was living and had a wonderful lunch with him and his missionary district. And delivered her letter.

A year and a half later when McKay came home, his family asked if I would come over and take a family picture. I was thrilled to see him and his family. And it was so fun to meet this beautiful girl who had asked us to deliver her letter. She seemed to fit right in and it was clear that his family loved her.

Fast forward to April when I got to watch these two in action. Not too many people ask if they can bring a bicycle and a guitar to an engagement shoot -these two were just a hoot. I have honestly never laughed so hard while taking pictures. They had the funnest ideas, like running up a wall and then turning to the camera, singing to each other in the park, riding a tandem in downtown Boise, and sword fighting with sticks down by the river. TOO FUNNY!

If this photo shoot is any indication of what there life will be like, I am sure that they will conquer all with love, compassion, and a healthy sense of humor.

I can’t wait to see what their wedding is like!

She has no idea how beautiful she is. Eagle Photography

The funniest things happen to photographers.  Imagine people coming up to you and saying the most random things.  Things that they would normally never say to complete strangers.  Put a nice camera and a long lens in your hands and you are free game.  It just makes me giggle.

Saturday, I had the privilege of photographing Krysta as part of her Senior YEAR portraits (we will be doing more in the Winter and Spring).  She is amazing.  She is talented.  And she has no idea how beautiful she is.

As we walked around downtown and on the greenbelt, people would stop and stare.  I would overhear little comments as they spoke amongst themselves.  “Senior pictures.”  “Isn’t she pretty.”  “Wonder where she goes to school.”

But not GQ.  No, he had to let us know that he noticed.  And that he wanted to be a part of the action.  As bold as if we were long time friends, he declared, “Hey, if you want a REALLY good shot, take one of me.  Now THAT is what you would want to print.  BIG.”  Being the smart-alec that I am, I replied, “Well jump on in there and give her a little kiss.  I’m sure her daddy will just LOVE that.”

Bless his heart, he leaned over and gave her an air kiss.  Krysta and I couldn’t stop laughing.  Her mom looked a bit startled, but then we all got a case of the giggles.   So we laughed, and we laughed. Krysta was such a good sport and just played along.

If hanging out with the funnest people around is not the greatest job in the world, I don’t know what is.

Krysta, you’re a keeper!

Miracles

Ann was kind enough to let me borrow her adorable girls for a photo shoot, and these two were the cutest things that you have ever met. It still breaks my heart that I could not bring them both home.

When Suzie asked if I was going to come over again, I almost started to cry.

It probably does not help the situation that MY two girls will be away at college this fall. With Bekah graduating a year early from high school, it has thrown mom for a loop.

ENJOY the girls, Ann. They grow up way too fast.

Spencer – Class of 2009 – Eagle, ID Senior Pictures

Spencer is a big teddy bear.  Not that you could tell by looking at him.  He gives off an air of confidence and people are intimidated by him.  I know that I used to be.

On a hot day in May, we drove to downtown Boise and I got to play with him in the alleys.  I was so impressed with how kind he was toward his mom.  Not every 18 year old will offer to carry things for their mom – or hold her hand – or speak to her so kindly.  What a gentleman.  You can tell a lot about a man by how he treats his mom.  I can tell that he will be a great father and husband.

Spencer is off to BYU-Provo this fall.  He tells me that he wants to go to medical school.  He will be an awesome doctor, too.

Best of luck Spencer!!!spencer blog 2009
